One day these little pots
and jars and envelopes;
containers of secrets
and truths
will be peeked at
and poked through
and assessed
as curiosity grows with shoe size.
And this maternal exemplar
will be lessened
as the varying depths of understanding
will demand.
And disappointment
and forgiveness
will take its course
as the varying depths of maturity
will allow.
And these little pots
and jars and envelopes,
sacred or sacrilege,
will return to being mine alone.
