Welcome to Twisted Sister’s Thoughts On Writing, Again.
Most of us are gearing up for NaNowWriMo (National Novel Writing Month), an annual event held in November where writers of all shapes and sizes attempt to craft the great American novel within 30 days. Or at least word-vomit a reasonable attempt.
So in the spirit of all things writerly, we’ve got some amazing pieces of advice and thoughts on writing from Canadian writers Jean Rae Baxter, Rob Domeinelli, and Tina Siegel. Check out their ideas, excerpts of their work, and be sure to visit their pages and publishers.
We’ve got some fresh fiction for you from the Tinder Sacrifices series by Vanessa Levin-Pompetzki and a great review of the original Netflix series Stranger Things by Brookelynn Berry.
And most importantly, after posting hundreds of pieces of work on Twisted Sister, we now have a sense of what feminist horror* truly is. Or isn’t. And we have some truly kickass examples of what we really liked around here. (If you’re not on the list, don’t worry, we still love you, it’s just we’re trying to keep the word counts and links to a minimum, but be sure to check out our beloved Freaks and Weirdos (er, our contributors) page to see what all you fine folks have been up to.
XO,
Twisted Sister
(*Ed. Note – horror should read horror/dark fantasy/crime/noire/scifi/sexy stuff where really naughty sexy or very bad things happen. This might be another essay topic for Liz McAdams, given her tendency to create Monstrous essays.)
In case you missed out amazingly awesome Twisted Sister Writer’s Digest, we’ve got that for you. (Check out Kelley Armstrong’s FAQ and our super simple style guide and the brilliantly entitled SPAG And All That Crap). And if you’re interested in joining our talented line up of Freaks and Weirdos (I mean contributors), we’ve got all the details for you right here.
